Maestro
William Morse has been the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Evergreen
Chamber Orchestra since its beginning in 1983. Under his leadership the ensemble
has continue to develop and flourish.
Currently
Dr. Morse is Professor Emeritus at Metropolitan State College of Denver where
he conducted the Symphony Orchestra and taught Advanced Conducting for many
years. He holds Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in music from Oberlin Conservatory
of music, and a Doctorate of Orchestral Conducting from the University of
Arizona. He has also studied at the Mosarteum Academy of Music in Salzburg,
Austria.
Dr. Morse is active as
a guest conductor, performer, adjudicator and clinician. In 1997 he toured
several cities in Russia and conducted a series of concerts. In the fall of
1996 he conducted in Denver's Sister City, Kunming, China. Dr. Morse was invited
to conduct the Kunming Symphony Orchestra in the prestigious Century Friendship
Concert. Dr. Morse has performed with and conducted for notable figures such
as Wynton Maralis, Billy Taylor, and Doc Severenson. In addition to his conducting
responsibilities with the Evergreen Chamber orchestra, he also conducts the
Jefferson Symphony Orchestra in Golden, Colorado.
As an
active freelance pianist, Dr. Morse performs with the Queen City Jazz Band
and with his jazz trio. He has performed with many metro area orchestras.
He has performed at functions for Marvin Hamlisch, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon,
Dick Lamm, Roy Romer, Wellington Webb, and others.
A man
of diverse musical talents, Dr. Morse is fond of the literature available
for symphony and chamber orchestra. His dynamic conducting style, innovative
musical programming, and outstanding musicianship have made him very popular
with Colorado audiences.
